Green Mountain, Abha

Green Mountain, known locally as Jabal Dhirah, is a prominent hill on the southern side of central Abha, the capital of the Asir Region in south-western Saudi Arabia. It is one of the most noticeable features of the city's skyline and can be seen from most districts.

The name Green Mountain comes from the green lighting that covers its slopes after sunset, so that at night it appears as a glowing green mass above the city. The summit has been developed as a tourist site with a restaurant, a café and viewing terraces. It can be reached by a road that climbs the hill or by cable cars that connect it with other parts of Abha and pass over the city's neighbourhoods.

Visitors go to the top to look over Abha, where the buildings spread across the hills, the dam lake and the mountains surrounding the city can all be seen. The hill is busiest in the evening, when the city is lit and the air is cooler. Green Mountain is regarded as one of the symbols of modern Abha and is a regular stop for the summer visitors who travel to the city to escape the heat of other regions.
