About Giza Plateau Panorama Point and its history
A raised viewpoint on the Giza plateau overlooking the three pyramids together.
The Giza Plateau Panorama Point is a raised spot in the desert on the Giza plateau, west of Cairo. It lies beyond the pyramid of Menkaure, to the south-west of the pyramid group, and allows the three great pyramids to be seen together in a single view.
The Giza plateau holds the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, built during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom, together with the small queens' pyramids, the mortuary temples and the Great Sphinx. It is part of the World Heritage site of Memphis and its necropolis. Because the pyramids are arranged roughly along a diagonal line, a person standing at their base cannot easily see them all at once.
From the point the three pyramids appear in sequence with the small queens' pyramids in front of them. Behind them the built-up area of Cairo and Giza is visible, while open desert stretches away on the other side. Visitors reach the viewpoint by vehicle along the internal road of the plateau, and camel and horse rides into the surrounding desert start from here. It is the usual place for taking general photographs of the Giza pyramids.
